Chipping Program

Since questions about the chipping program have been coming in, it’s time to provide some useful tips about the program. Rod’s Tree Service will again be our contractor. The service will begin in mid-September and will continue into October until ALL jobs in the Highlands are complete. The cost is $300. per hour from the time they arrive at your property until they reach the next property in 15 minute increments; i.e. If they are working on your property for 15 minutes or less, the cost is $75. If 16-29 minutes, you will be charged $150. and so on. I provide a map of all participants to limit their drive time. All the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024 participants were very pleased with the work completed by the crew.

The form can then be scanned and e-mailed to Amy sent to PO Box 312, Tabernash, CO 80478. The deadline is September 6, 2025………..BUT THE CLOCK IS TICKING, SO DON’T DELAY!

TIPS TO HELP LIMIT YOUR COST!

The crew will be able to move more efficiently if your material is sorted in SMALL material & LARGE material piles. As you put material in each pile, position the largest part of the branch TOWARD the street or driveway. The workers feed the material into the chipper with the large part first. If they need to turn the material, it takes time and costs YOU money. The form asks if you would like contractor to TAKE or LEAVE the chips. If you select LEAVE the chips, be specific as to where you want them to be placed or spread.

I’m confident we all have material that needs to be removed to help with our mitigation process. Please remember: JUNIPERS ARE EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE so DON’T BE AFRAID TO JUNK THE JUNIPERS! They are usually around trees and Power Poles to provide ladder fuel to burn the trees we are working to save and disrupt power to our community. Any work we do helps to make our community a safer place to enjoy. Please keep a record of your work hours and contractor costs. The 2025 hours are worth $34.79 per hour of in-kind labor. We use these costs to help account for our Firewise Commitment.
